Rain rot in horses mainly occurs during wet spells. It is also known as rain scab, and although the name might suggest otherwise, it has nothing to do with actual scabies (caused by mites).
When the skin remains damp for a prolonged period – for example, due to rain, mud or a thick coat – it can become more sensitive. This can lead to the formation of scabs, flaky patches, rough patches or areas of wet skin.

When should you choose this set?
This set is often used for horses that are sensitive to:
• Coat that remains wet for a long time
• Mud
• High humidity
• Change of season (autumn/winter)
Treatment:
Wear gloves to carefully remove the scabs and immediately deposit them in the rubbish bin. Best thing to do is to put your horse in a dry stable and avoid sunlight.
Use
Wash your horse 1–2 times with the Green-XL Leg Cleaner.
Repeat this the following week if the result is not yet satisfactory.
It is important to dry it thoroughly after washing.

We are occasionally asked: The consistency of our Green XL shampoo can vary slightly. Sometimes the shampoo has a slightly thinner texture, whilst at other times it feels more gel-like.
These differences are perfectly normal and arise because our shampoo is a natural product, made with minimal processing and without any artificial thickeners. The quality and effectiveness remain the same, of course – gentle on your hair and kind to the environment.
Neem ointment – a soothing ointment for sensitive or irritated horse skin.
Neem is renowned for its versatile properties and has been used for centuries to care for and support the skin. It can help to keep the skin supple and moisturised and is often used to treat sensitive or irritated skin, such as in cases of dryness or flaking.
This ointment intensively nourishes and cares for the skin and supports its natural ability to heal. It helps to keep the skin soft and can be soothing for horses suffering from itching caused by insects.
Tip: Test the product on a small patch of skin first. Every horse is different!
Combine this treatment with a suitable blend of herbs for horses, to provide support from within.

Consult your vet if: if these products do not work, it is best to consult your vet. If the rain rot appears to be severe from the outset, call your vet straight away.

Shelf life: Green xl products have a shelf life of 2 years. Do not store in direct sunlight. It is best to store these products at a temperature of 10–30 degrees. Therefore, never leave these products in the cold or heat, for example outside the stable or outside your car.
